Cursive Handwriting

When teaching handwriting, I always start with a few reminders for students. They need to have: a nice sharp pencil, good posture, and a stable, flat surface to work on.

Typically, I would have students watch as I demonstrate the letter on the board, then I would have them come to the board and trace the letter with their finger before trying the letter on a white board. When they have a good sense of forming the letter on the white board, I move them on to the paper and pencil activity.

Since white boards and markers will not be easily accessible at home, a great way to practice before moving to paper and pencil, is a little bit of shaving cream on the counter. They can practice forming the letter in the shaving cream. It's lots of fun!
